Syrian refugees removed from Syntagma square

Police authorities on Monday moved the Syrian refugees who were holding a sit-in protest at Syntagma square in down town Athens.

According to a report from the state news agency, the police operation took place at around 03.00. Syrian refugees were taken away by buses to the Attica Foreign Nationals Department, while many police forces remained at the scene.

Last week several refugees, mainly women and children, were taken to a social housing infrastructure belonging to the Municipality of Athens, while city mayor George Kaminis called on other mayors of the Attica region to help resolve the issue.
